Julia Campisi’s practice is based in appropriating and re-imagining feminine imagery. She transforms the subject matter from complicated sexualized images into simplistic overlooked by-products that history has memorialized as female. She layers, deconstructs and reprocesses the photographs into collages, sculptures and paintings. Each reforming and questioning the complex archeology in which they originated. She builds connections between objects, images and memories that at first glance seem disconnected, yet with closer inspection, expose their intimate symbiotic relationships.
